- Senate Bill 2164 would drastically impact Tilton Fitness' ability to offer personal training and group exercise classes. Our 12,000 members rely on these services.
- The bill’s education requirements are roughly equivalent to seven college courses. This is an extreme departure from industry practice and would cost Tilton Fitness' employees thousands of dollars.
- There is currently no course offered that meets the educational requirements.
- Senate Bill 2164 would have an especially devastating effect on our approximately 100 group fitness instructors.
- Group exercise instructors are predominantly paid based on the number of classes they teach, but are limited in this number due to the physical demands of teaching and the safety policies of our facility.
- The additional costs that the Fitness Professionals Licensing Act would impose on our instructors would undoubtedly have a prohibitive effect on the number of individuals willing to teach the classes that help so many of our members.
- Due to the high cost of the education requirements, the number of people that would be able to help fulfill the fitness needs of New Jersey residents would be limited.
- The cost of personal training would likely increase to offset the new costs to trainers and clubs, making it unaffordable for most residents.
- Tilton Fitness follows the 2005 resolution from the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association Board of Directors by hiring personal trainers holding at least one current certification from a certifying organization/agency that has begun third-party accreditation of its certification procedures and protocols from an independent, experienced, and nationally recognized accrediting body.
- This bill ignores the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), the foremost accreditation body of allied health professions.
- This bill recognizes a single certifying body and ignores the high accreditation standards that the majority of the industry is already following.
- At Tilton Fitness, our personal trainers and group exercise instructors are deeply committed to the safety of our members. We take every effort to ensure the well-being of our members.
